    Αντιαρματικός πύραυλος Malkara, βρετανο-αυστραλιανής ανάπτυξης και κατασκευής. Από τους πρώτους Α/Τ πυραύλους του ΗΒ και από τους πρώτους «πονοκεφάλους» σε αυτόν τον τομέα. Αν και στις δοκιμές «έπιασε» 90% επιτυχία, στην πράξη αποδείχθηκε βαρύς, αργός και άστοχος.

    Το ενδιαφέρον σε δεύτερο πλάνο σε αυτό το quiz είναι πως για τη μεταφορά και διαχείρισή του αναπτύχθηκε το θωρακισμένο όχημα FV1620 Hornet που βασίστηκε σε φορτηγό Pig 1 τόνου της Humber. Το όχημα σχεδιαστικά πρέπει να αποτελεί προάγγελο των οχημάτων HMMWV, Eagle και LMV.

    PYTHON
    Python was a private venture by Pye Ltd of Royston Cambridgeshire; the specification was drawn up in
    1957. The missile was neatly designed around imperial measurements being 5 feet long, a wingspan of 2 feet,
    and a body diameter 6 inches.
    Although it was to be fired and controlled by a single man and claimed to be man-portable, it required two
    men to lug it around with its ancillaries. It weighed 80 lb. and had to be carried around on a 12-lb metal
    frame that also acted as the launch pad.
    However Python had a range of 4,000 yds, which was more than double the range of Vigilant. Guidance
    commands were sent via a two-core cable to electric motors controlling the direction of the exhaust jet, a
    system that was later to be used on Swingfire with considerable success.
    No orders were received for Python and the project dwindled away. Those countries that had an interest in
    small ATGWs were busy developing their own local products: France (SS10, ENTAC), Sweden (Bantam),
    Germany (Cobra), Switzerland (Mosquito) and Britain (Vigilant).

    A proposed wire-guided anti-tank missile with a 30lb warhead, with a maximum range of 4000 yards. Working models were built and tested using a 2-stage rocket motor supplied by the Bristol Aircraft Company, Rocket Division. The design was not adopted by the Ministry of Supply and did not start quantity production.

    Python Formerly known merely as the «PV»—emphasizing that it is a private venture,
    financed by the company—the Python is an 801b wire-guided missile for use against tanks
    or other hard-skinned targets. Rate of development has naturally paralleled the rate of
    expenditure, but much has been accomplished during the past year. Effort has been concentrated
    upon a novel method of roll-stabilization. To minimize gyro power only the
    rear end of the missile, where the cartesian co-ordinates are applied, is prevented from rotating,
    by using gyro power to oppose the roll inertia of the remainder of the missile. The
    War Office continue to take a close interest in the programme, and Government ranges
    have been made available for test firing. Pye have exhibited the Python both as an infantryweapon,
    and carried on the Land Rover (six rounds) and the Belgian air-droppable AS.243
    vehicle (three rounds).

    THIS essentially simple weapon system is
    unusual in that it is a private venture by a
    company with no previous experience of the
    design and manufacture of flying vehicles.
    This may prove to be an advantage, since the
    electronic aspects of the work are generally
    among the most difficult and Pye are renowned
    for their prowess in this sphere.
    In size the Pye P.V. weapon surpasses that
    of all other anti-tank missiles currently under
    development, with the exception of the Australian
    Malkara (and possibly of the Fairey,
    although nothing is known publicly of the
    latter). Nevertheless, Pye have gone to great
    lengths to make the entire system transportable
    by one man, and it is also amenable to carriage
    by helicopters. The cylindrical body carries
    a large shaped charge on its nose and a fixed
    cruciform of wrapped-sheet wings; two of the
    wings carry flares and the other pair mount
    streamlined nacelles for the guidance wires.
    The two-stage solid-propellant internal motor
    is produced by Bristol Aircraft, and the missile
    is steered by deflection of the jet. The complete
    weapon system comprises the missile, a simple
    tubular launcher, and a 20-lb control box
    which contains power supplies, ground shaping
    unit and transmitter. Flight trials are now in
    progress at an M.o.S. range.
    Pye P.V.: overall length, 60in; wing span, 24in; body
    diameter, 6in; firing weight, 80 Ib; flight speed and
    maximum effective range, classified.
